Behind Qumup is a person who enjoys sitting in front of a computer screen. For a long time, Qumup was a part-time activity alongside my career at Statistics Netherlands, where I worked as an IT developer, researcher, project leader, and manager. Eventually, I left to be able to work more according to my own vision.

In 2026, I no longer need to earn money from my work, and this gives me the privilege of being able to prioritize my own ideas and interests. I want to continue doing interesting things and let society benefit from them wherever possible. In concrete terms, this means exploring and developing innovative online communication concepts with Drupal, without a direct profit motive.

I am a political scientist and anthropologist by training. That background partly determines the journalistic choices I make regarding the content on some of my websites.

Examples of those websites are the research website Rechts23.nl , launched in 2023, and VidStance.com , since late 2025. Music site Qideos.Online , also published in 2025, is where I developed the technology that made VidStance.com possible.

Until 2026, I also managed the webshops Kwantumkortingen.nl, Derdegratis.nl, Kantooruitrusting.nl, and QloQs.store. I recently stopped doing so because, due to the dominance of a limited number of large players, those activities offered little added value. The webshops primarily served as showcases for available expertise and as experimental platforms to explore new webshop concepts and test technical possibilities. Kwantumkortingen.nl eventually contained more than 200,000 items and nearly 2 million product photos. This required advanced server solutions and efficient management of product information. The expertise and methodologies I acquired during this process—including automating the updating of the webshops as much as possible—still prove useful in projects with a less commercial and more social objective. When developing those solutions, I use modern AI services to save costs.

The strength of Qumup lies not only in the use of the latest Drupal and AI technologies, but also in their creative application. On Rechts23.nl, for example, users can not only fill out questionnaires but also come up with their own statements and present them to others. In that regard, I am open to collaboration with other parties with a non-commercial focus to make societal contributions.

In the meantime, I am primarily experimenting with video technology (Qideos.Online) and with video technology in combination with journalism and AI analysis (VidStance.com). In 2026, I primarily continued working on VidStance.com. In doing so, the emphasis shifted from further web technology development to the creation of journalistic content based on the analysis of YouTube videos. I make this content available on VidStance.com in the form of articles and publications. Two of those articles can help me explain to others why working for large organizations isn't always fun and why employees leave: The Bravest Room in the Office and The Confident Incompetent. Upon request, I also develop this type of journalistic content for others, where the fee depends on the societal importance of the subject.

I still occasionally offer standard services to a very limited number of regular clients. I no longer actively solicit new clients, but anyone interested can still reach out. For a number of service types, the 'no cure, no pay' principle applies. I simply still find some aspects of that older work a fun puzzle, such as upgrading a site from an old to a new Drupal version. I do such jobs with pleasure, even though earning money is no longer the goal.

My current agenda includes using AI to continue publishing articles and books on VidStance.com and developing an informative website about political decision-making in The Hague. For that website, I want to analyze motions and meetings of the House of Representatives.
